Scott Solomon and Paul Ridker
Two BWH research teams ranked first and third in a list of most cited papers of 2005, according to Science Watch, a bimonthly newsletter published by Thomson Scientific.
'Our annual roundup of the hottest research papers celebrates researchers whose work influences modern scientific thought,' said Christopher King, editor of Science Watch.
Paul M. Ridker, MD, MPH, and his group had 124 citations—the most for any paper last year—for 'C-reactive Protein Levels and Outcomes after Statin Therapy,' published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) in January 2005.
The research team for this paper included prominent BWHers Christopher Cannon, MD, David Morrow, MD, Carolyn McCabe, Marc Pfeffer, MD, PhD, and Eugene Braunwald, MD. Ridker also is the only researcher to be listed as the first author on more than one paper. His second paper was 30th on the list. 'A Randomized Trial of Low-Dose Aspirin in the Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in Women' was published in NEJM in March 2005 and included BWH researchers Nancy Cook, ScD, I-Min Lee, MB, BS, David Gordon, MA, J. Michael Gaziano, MD, JoAnn Manson, MD, DrPH, and Julie Buring, ScD.
Scott Solomon, MD, director of Noninvasive Cardiology, and his research group took the number three spot on the list with 97 citations for 'Cardiovascular Risk Associated with Celecoxib in a Clinical Trial for Colorectal Adenoma Prevention,' published in the NEJM in March 2005. Marc Pfeffer, MD, PhD, also was an author of this study.
